Wondros, Mark Pellington and Kid Rock pay tribute to Detroit with “Care”

On a rainy day, in the shadows of Detroit’s people mover, singer Kid Rock, filmmaker Mark Pellington, rapper T.I., country singer Angaleena Presley and Wondros Music+Vision gathered to film the music video for Kid Rock's new song, “Care.”

The video was filmed in front of an empty, four-story building emblazoned with the song’s title, and surrounded by statements submitted by the video's subjects and comments gathered on Rock’s website. The wall’s messages spoke to the ethos of the song, which is about community, understanding and being kind to one another in difficult times.

“I can’t change the world and make things fair,” Rock sings in the song. “The least that I can do is care.”

The messages on the wall and the video’s concept reflect “both the personal and the political,” describes director Mark Pellington.

Pellington hopes the "Care" wall remains in tact and becomes a fixture of the city.

"We've had people asking if we were going to take it down or paint over it, and I said, 'I don't think so,'" he said. "I think it would be a shame to take it down. These are all issues of human concern, which is what the song is all about. To me, this is timeless."

Next month Kid Rock will be launching a tour where he’ll donate money to charities in each city that he visits.
